Just finished watching "Coco avant Chanel" starring Audrey Tautou as Gabrielle Chanel (Coco Chanel). The movie itself wasn't brilliant i thought, what truly amazed me though, was Coco's story of becoming famous and how advanced her fashion style really was. She grew up living in an orphanage. Turning 18 she had to leave her home, became a cabaret singer and worked as a tailor for different stores. That was when she started being passionate about designing clothes. After several fortunate coincidences she became a renown hat designer amongst the french society and soon opened a store in Paris. It was around 1915 that Coco also started designing men's wear inspired women's clothes and rapidly became one of the most sought after designers around the world. Her style was very elegant, discrete and classy, the little black dress and the tailored costume were Coco Chanel's trademarks.
